Individualized Tuition

I know firsthand the importance of learning from a maker who has a great depth of experience.   I would not be where I am in this profession if I had not studied with the master maker Gregg Alf.  I believe that all makers owe a great debt to the people who took the time to share their knowledge, and that we in turn should be willing to pass along what we have learned.     There is also no substitute for the type of learning one experiences when one’s work is critiqued, guided, and observed step by step.

For this reason, I offer one-on-one or very small group workshops on selected topics in violinmaking.    Workshops usually run over six days, and in some cases, such as learning to varnish an instrument, the workshop will take two full weeks.  Accommodation at the shop is included in the cost of the course of study.   Board is not included.  Sessions are expensive, but the knowledge of processes covered in the course of study is invaluable and will serve you for a lifetime.  Daily sessions run from 9am to 5pm. Evenings are student freetime, though students may wish to work unguided into the night on projects.   Curriculum content is individualized for the needs and goals of each student.
