Instrument Trial PRocess

A Kelvin Scott viola ready to go out for trial

Trials of new violins, violas, or cellos generally last around two weeks.  Once we mutually agree upon a date for the arrival of the instrument, they will be shipped by USPS Express Priority service, which typically arrives overnight.  Customers are asked to pay for the outward shipping, and I will cover the return shipping should that be required.  Instruments are fully insured for the duration of the shipment and trial.

Violas and violins will be packed in new cases and placed inside reinforced shipping boxes. Customers are asked to preserve original packaging to facilitate simple return shipping.  Cellos, unfortunately, cannot be shipped and will either need to be picked up at the shop or I will deliver them in person.

During your trial of the instrument, I encourage you to test the instrument in all the settings where you might normally expect to play.  It can also be quite useful to prearrange meetings for this period with colleagues and/or teachers so that you can hear the instrument from a distance and even compare it to other good instruments.    I am always happy to answer questions about the instrument (its tone, its features, its setup) during this process.   Contact us to set up a trial by clicking here.
