My Studio

Up until 2014, I had always worked from home.    At that point my workshop was bursting at the seams with my varnish room on one floor, a small workshop on another, and a machine room on yet another.   In the spring of 2014, the opportunity arose to purchase a building to house all aspects of the shop, and I took the plunge.

After an extensive remodeling, the new studio space proved itself a great boon to my work.  With a much better arrangement of rooms and the space to approach the work more systematically, I find myself making better and more instruments than ever before.   In addition, it has given my apprentices their own areas.  We have a dedicated varnish room, photography room, machine workshop, and two handwork workshops.    We have a comfortable sitting area in which visitors can play new instruments.  One of the qualities that drew me to this new workshop was the tall ceilings and great light.  There is nothing like opening the shop in the morning and seeing light pouring in over the arch of an instrument you have been working on.

If you are passing through Knoxville or would like to visit, please contact us so we can set up an appointment to show you where we work, how we work, and how this all helps to create a great new instrument for you.
