Violin after a Late Period Guarneri ‘del Gesù

A Violin built on a late model of  Giuseppe “‘del Gesù” Guarneri.    The one-piece back is made of European maple of strong, medium curl.  The top is made of alpine spruce with regular, medium-width annual rings which run parallel to the center joint.   The ribs are made of strongly flamed maple and are cut from the back.  The scroll is made of more lightly flamed European maple.  

 

The violin is antiqued.  The oil varnish is a red-orange color over a golden ground.  The violin is setup with boxwood fittings, and on the button of the neck there is an ebony crown.

Violin after a 1716 Antonio Stradivari

A Violin built on the PG form of Antonio Stradivari.  The two-piece back is made of European maple of regular, medium curl, which are descending from the center joint.  The top is made of alpine spruce with regular, medium-width annual rings which run parallel to the center joint.   The ribs are made of strongly flamed maple of medium width.  The scroll is made of more lightly flamed European maple.  

 

The violin is antiqued.  The oil varnish is a ruby-orange color over a golden ground.  The violin is setup with boxwood fittings.
